1801 — The Marquis de Sade is arrested in the offices of his publisher, who had also brought out Sade's anonymously published ten-volume, illustrated erotic novels, La Nouvelle Justine and L'Histoire de Juliette. The police discover manuscripts and corrected pages in Sade's handwriting. After interrogation, he will be sent to Sainte-Pélagie prison.

1899 — Felix Hoffman patents aspirin, thus significantly weakening the "Not Tonight" defensive play.

1964 — After five years of marriage, Elizabeth Taylor divorces her fourth husband, Eddie Fisher. Hey Ed, leave the door open on your way out; the lady's marrying Richard Burton next week.
