Every day it seems like more people are saying, oh Martha what are we to do; in what seems like an instant you’ve gone from bitch queen of a multimedia billion-dollar house and lifestyles empire to bitch queen of a multimedia billion-dollar house and lifestyles empire. Consequently, every day our resident chefs in the Black Hearts Party kitchens are flooded with more and more requests for answers to common culinary dilemmas.
Say for example that you wish to demonstrate your wittiness and maturity by hosting a large party at which you serve only black food and black drinks, but you’re fresh out of ideas on both counts. We’d like to share two of our favorite recipes which are easy on the budget, and more importantly easy on your time. Plus they batch well which is so important for events where you’re serving many guests.
By the way these dishes aren’t just for amusing theme parties, they also work great for bitter artists, moms with goth teenagers, or even for those times when you want to sit around by yourself on a rainy day with The Smiths on the stereo while you feed torn up photos of your ex into a meat grinder.
Black Hearts Party Sangria Serves about 15-20 normal people or one 36-hour binge.
2 oranges, cut into eight pieces 2 lemons, quartered 2 TBSP sugar 10 cinnamon sticks 1 cup gin or vodka 1 cup blackberry brandy one gallon Burgandy wine 3 liters black cherry soda
Combine first six ingredients in large, 8 to 10 quart punch bowl or stock pot. Add 3/4 of gallon of wine and about 2 liters of black cherry soda. Mix well, and gradually add more wine and/or soda to taste. Allow sangria to sit for at least two hours before serving, serve chilled.
Black Hearts Party Quesadillas Makes 60 quesadillas, for about fifteen people. We love this simple, yet elegant party snack. The black tortilla wraps can be found in specialty stores or gourmet delicatessens. Use white cheddar because it turns clear when melting so it doesn’t interfere with the color scheme.
6 black tortilla wraps 1 16oz can refried black beans 6 oz spicy salsa (we prefer Whole Foods Salsa Caribe) 2 1/4 cups shredded white cheddar cheese
Preheat oven to 400°F.
Lay out one tortilla wrap on a pizza tray or stone. Spread 1/3 can of refried black beans on one wrap. Spread beans as evenly as possible, almost to the edge of the wrap. Sprinkle 2-3 heaping tablespoons of salsa over beans, and smooth salsa evenly across wrap using the back of the tablespoon.
Sprinkle about 3/4 cup of shredded cheese evenly over beans and salsa. Place another tortilla wrap over ingredients, and place tray in center of oven. Bake for about ten minutes, or until outside wrap becomes slightly crisp. Allow to cool slightly before cutting.
Repeat twice more, using remaining ingredients. |
